About Us:

Chilterns Dog Rescue Society are a rescue and re-homing centre for unwanted dogs and dogs in need. Not only does the Society care for and find homes for lost and abandoned dogs, owners circumstances sometimes change and this can result in dogs coming into our care.

The Objects of the Society are to rescue and rehome unwanted and abandoned dogs – principally from Herts, Beds & Bucks (but also from other areas as space permits). Dogs come to us for a variety of reasons including illness, bereavement, financial hardship, accommodation issues and personal crisis.

Whatever the reason, these dogs are cared for by the Society until the right new home can be found for them. Our priority is the dogs and we will always put the dogs first.

In finding new homes for our dogs consideration is given to older adopters, families and those with additional needs and specific home requirements, provided they are able to meet the short and long term needs of an individual dog. This benefits a wide range of people whose lives can be enhanced by a canine companion but who may otherwise take on an unsuitable dog or be excluded from dog ownership altogether.

We refuse to have dogs put down except for extreme medical reasons or irreversible behavioural conditions. To this end, we provide extensive veterinary care and training for the dogs that need it.

Founded in 1963, the Society has a long history of rescue and rehoming and continues to grow thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of its many supporters, volunteers, members and Trustees.

The Society is pleased to offer opportunities to those who express an interest having closer contact with dogs in other ways. An active volunteer scheme involves the local community in a variety of activities including dog walking and assisting with fundraising as well as work experience, Duke of Edinburgh students and individuals considering a change in career.

This is a very exciting time for us as we are currently in the middle of a complete redevelopment of our kennels and facilities and we are hoping work on phase one of the project will be completed early in 2016.

By supporting us in the lottery you will be helping us continue to put dogs first for many years to come!

Thank you for your support and good luck!

Best Wishes
