Puzzle Centre is giving young children with autism and other communication difficulties a greater chance to achieve their potential in life. By providing specialist education and support for children aged 2-5 years, we are helping them to develop vital communication and learning skills at a crucial time in their lives. We also work closely with parents, carers and early years professionals to ensure that they, too, are better able to understand and support young children with autism.
Autism is a lifelong disability affecting 1 in 100 people and all children with autism experience difficulties with social interaction, as well as verbal and non-verbal communication. This often results in low confidence, frustration, isolation, heightened anxiety and challenging behaviours. With the help of Puzzle Centre’s multidisciplinary team of experts, the children who attend our specialist nursery gain vital skills that will help them to reach their potential in life.
When Harrison came to Puzzle Centre he was unable to talk, ignored other children, refused to take part in any activities and became extremely anxious in many everyday situations. Through intensive one-to-one work with our Speech and Language Therapists, Harrison learnt to use a Picture Exchange Communication System and gained the confidence and skills to express his needs and interests. He now plays with other children, attends parties, interacts with his sister and copes much better with changes to his routine. Harrison has progressed so well that he now attends a mainstream school and has recently joined the school council!
We need your help so we can continue to offer and even expand our service to meet the needs of many more children like Harrison and their families.
Thank you for your support and good luck!
